Birdseed Porridge
1 tbs flax seed
1 tbs sesame seed
1 tbs pumpkin seed
1 tbs sunflower seed
Grind these up in a coffee grinder for 20 seconds or so. If you like, add in a teaspoon or so of wheat bran -- it's mostly fiber and looks like sawdust.
Put in a microwaveable cup or bowl. Add a generous 1/3 cup water and at least a tablespoon of butter.
If you can stand the extra carbs, add dried or fresh fruit, just like you'd do with oatmeal.
Microwave for about a minute. Add whatever you'd usually add to oatmeal - cream, splenda, cinnamon.
Seriously, we eat this all the time at our house, occasionally even for dinner -- it's filling, outrageously healthy, low carb and gluten-free.
And before you grind it up, it looks like birdseed.
